Kamilari
Built on top on hills as almost all the old villages to overlook potential invaders and to give the room of the plain ground for agriculture.
Kamilari is a hillside village with hundreds of years of recorded history, while Kalamaki is a rather new one, located just north of Kommos beach and the archaeological site of Kommos. Kalamaki beach is facing west, to the Libyan sea and have a stunning view to the Paximadia islets and the south coast of Crete, Rethymno and Chania. When the visibility is not restricted, the island of Gavdos is barely visible in the horizon. Kalamaki and the neighbouring beaches of Kommos, Afrathias and Kokkinos Pyrgos near Tymbaki are one of the most important places of egg laying grounds of the sea turtle Caretta caretta in Crete and in Greece.

Built by the sea of Messara bay that is actually is a part Libyan sea and one of the southmost places of Crete.
Kamilari is a hillside village with hundreds of years of recorded history, only couple of kilometers away from Festos and Aghia Triada two of the most important archaeological sites of the Minoan era.
It has a vibrant and friendly community but still has retain it’s character of a beatiful and peaceful village in south Crete.
